Please Add the Wedigets: Behind the Scenes of the Canva Musical
If you found this post by Googling “please add the wedigets”, you’re in the right place.
Yes, that was me on stage at Canva Create 2025, rapping in what may go down in history as the most unexpected Canva musical moment ever.
And yes, Tom McGovern, musical comedian, jingle wizard, and genius songwriter wrote the song. I just showed up with the bars and a suitcase full of nerve.
A Quick Flashback to Canva Create 2024
Last year, I stepped onto the YouTube Theater stage for the very first time and performed the now-infamous Canva Rap that… let’s just say… sparked a lot of conversation online.
Some of it was love.
Some of it was… not love? 😅
Watch the rap that started it all:
This Year: Canva Create Became a Full-Blown Musical
When Canva invited me back to help close out Canva Create 2025, the concept was basically:
End the show with a musical number about new product updates (that came from the requests ofCanva users), but make it ✨Broadway meets Beyoncé meets widgets.✨”
Enter: Tom McGovern.
If you’ve ever heard Tom perform, you know he’s a musical comedy genius. He wrote the entire musical script, including the now-iconic hook that came directly from a comment left by a Canva community member:
“Please add the wedigets.”
(Yes, wedigets. Not widgets. Don’t correct it. It’s canon now.)
That line took on a life of its own, and now I want the t-shirt.
Let’s Talk About Nerves
After the performance, one of my friends looked at me and said:
“I bet you don’t even get nervous anymore.”
I laughed.
Because I get nervous every. single. time.
Whether it’s stepping on stage, launching a new course, or posting something vulnerable, there’s always that whisper:
“What if this flops miserably and it makes everyone hate me and I end up living alone in a sewer with no one to encourage me except a rat named Splinter and fall into a green ooze and become a powerful mutant with ninja powers - ok that actually sounds kind of awesome but this is now becoming the world's longest run-on sentence.”
✨ Confidence doesn’t come from being fearless.
It comes from showing up scared and doing the thing anyway.
Behind the Scenes
📸 This year, I captured rehearsals, behind-the-scenes, backstage, studio recordings, and a whole lot more. And of course I put it all together using a Canva presentation chocked full of music, videos, and animations. You can check out the whole journey below.
